From the art studio to the television screen, from the newsroom to the radio booth, Fungai Masango-Willard has lived a life dedicated to creativity, culture, and communication. Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, Fungai’s journey began in the world of modeling, where her grace and confidence saw her win four beauty pageants during her student years — the pinnacle being her crowning as Miss Harare Polytechnic 1989.
But beauty was only the beginning. Beneath the elegance was a gifted visual artist who trained at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe’s School of Visual Art and Design. Her works were later exhibited at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe, marking her as a bold creative force with a unique perspective.
Art, Media, and Culture
Fungai’s creative energy soon expanded into media and production. Over the years, she has played a pivotal role in Zimbabwe’s cultural scene:
Sat on the Zimbabwe Censorship Board, shaping the regulation of film and music.
Assisted the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in a key fundraising drive.
Managed production for the NAMA Award-winning soap opera Studio 263 and the iconic film Neria.
Produced the documentary series In My Shoes for MNet Africa, telling authentic African stories to the world.
Not just behind the scenes, Fungai also stepped into the spotlight — choreographing and dancing in the 1989 music video Monica by Newman Chipeni, a production that became a favorite on ZTV.
The Communicator
With more than 32 years of experience in communications, public relations, print, and broadcast journalism, Fungai has become a trusted media professional. She also appeared in ZBC dramas, showcasing her range as both a journalist and a performer.
The Voice of Classic 263
Today, Fungai is celebrated as a Producer and Presenter on ZBC Classic 263 Radio, where she engages audiences five mornings a week. Her voice carries warmth, authority, and a touch of elegance — qualities that have made her a household name and a cultural touchstone in Zimbabwean broadcasting
Fungai’s story is one of reinvention, resilience, and artistry. Whether painting canvases, producing award-winning television, shaping cultural conversations, or commanding the airwaves, she remains a woman of vision and influence.
Fungai Masango-Willard is not just a broadcaster. She is a storyteller, a cultural leader, and an enduring voice of Zimbabwe’s creative spirit.
